A Special Dragon Dancing Team in Jiangan Special School

—— 26 Intellectual Disabled Students, Had Ever Performed in SO World Games

The Dragon Dancing Team

Running, turning, the dragon was flying in the hands of a group of students. No one could imagine that these boys were intellectual disabled. They were members of “Sunshine Dragon Dancing Team” from Jiangan Special School.

Jiangan is a special school for physical and intellectual disabled students. Two years ago, 26 students aged from 8 to 26 were organized for the dragon dancing. That is the start of Sunshine Dragon Dancing Team.
According to Ms. Zhu Wanyan, the team’s coach, all the dancers had to be much harder in practising and training than normal people. Even a very simple action would need days of exercise before they could be coordinated well.

However, everybody was deeply indulged into this interesting game. Xiaojun (alias), whose role was carrying the dragon tail, was repeating an action even in his dream.

Their efforts turned into success. On the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games, Sunshine participated in dragon and lion shows. They became confident in themselves, Ms. Zhu said, and she was very proud of the team.
