Karen is talkative (though a little inarticulate),
confident and unabashed. She likes to make friends and so she
has many friends. Her families are all proud of her.
In 2004, Karen won a gold medal for Snowshoeing Competition held
at Butterfly Beach. After that, she was further invited to take
part in the snowshoeing training 1 or 2 days every week at Butterfly
Beach or the Beach Volleyball Court, Choi Hung Road or Sha Tin
Jubilee Stadium or the Venue of Special Olympics Hong Kong.
In 2005, Karen was luckily selected as a representative to attend
Special Olympics World Winter Games in Nagano, Japan. She was
only 8 years old at that time and was the youngest athlete in
the competition.
Now Karen still attends the activities organized by Special Olympics
Hong Kong or by her school often. She has exclaimed to learn skating
since she came back from Japan. With the help of her school, she
smoothly participated in the junior skating training. In February,
2008, she was awarded a gold medal and a silver medal at the 32nd
Special Olympics Skating Competition. And so she was selected
into the training team. On the recently issued athlete list for
2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games, Karen becomes one of
the speed skating athletes. We are all very happy. Compared with
the journey to Japan, it's a challenge for Karen this time to
go so far away from home. However, she is believed to cope with
it very well.
