Professional Golfer Shares Tips With Special Olympics Athletes

Korea , November 2-4 – During the first “Special Olympics East Asia Golf Tournament”, a 9-hole tournament held at the Daegu Country Club which involved teams from Chinese Taipei and China , Korean PGA member Choi Sang-ho shared his professional skills and experience with a Special Olympics Korean athlete.

Choi Sang-ho joined the Korean PGA in the 1970s and, throughout his 30-year golfing career, represented Korea many times in the Asian game circuit. He is a respected player and considered a prestigious athlete in Korea . After his spectacular performance during the 2005 Maekyung Open, Choi Sang-ho was recorded as the oldest winner of the Asian Tour.Read More...

Volunteer Spotlight: From Peace Corps to Special Olympics

Interview with Louis & John Wood

Louisa and John Wood left their home in Santa Monica, California, in 2005 to work as development volunteers and English teachers in an impoverished county in rural, western China. After serving with the United States Peace Corps in Gansu Province, the young couple decided to stay on in China. Special Olympics Bocce Competition Concludes in Chinese Taipei

Taipei , December 4 — More than 600 Special Olympics athletes and officials from six countries gathered here from Dec. 2 to Dec. 4 for the 2006 Special Olympics East Asia Regional Bocce Competition, hosted by Special Olympics Chinese Taipei.

Involved in the competition were 3 1 Taipei teams and 12 SOEA teams from Hong Kong, Macau, the Republic of Korea , Malaysia and Indonesia .

he event marked the first time in history that indigenous people from Miaoli County took part in an event organized by SOEA. Among the eight indigenous athletes that competed in the games was Princess Weiyu Lin. During the elaborate opening ceremonies, these indigenous athletes dressed themselves in traditional costume and took the limelight of the show.  Read More...

TV Rebroadcast Summit Held In Shanghai

Shanghai , China , December 2006 ----- The Games Steering Committee (GSC) of the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games and Special Olympics Inc. (SOI) jointly held the TV Rebroadcast Summit in Shanghai .

Officials from Special Olympics China, Special Olympics International, China Central Television (CCTV), the Shanghai Media Group (SMG), ESPN/Star Sport, Phoenix and Sun Television all presented during the summit. The organizations exchanged views on television program production and rebroadcast during the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games.   Read More...
