Special Olympics Chairman and President Visited Beijing during Paralympics Games 

 

On Sept. 5-9, 2008, Dr. Timothy Shriver, Chairman and CEO of Special Olympics International (SOI) and Mr. Brady Lum, President and COO of SOI visited Beijing. During this short but eventful visit, Dr. Shriver and Mr. Lum attended the Beijing Paralympic Games Opening Ceremony as honoured guests and visited some on-going competitions. Besides, Dr. Shriver and Mr. Brady, accompanied by Ms Anna Chan, Managing Director of SO East Asia office based in Beijing, attended a series of meetings with partners and government officials.    More...

2008 SOEA Regional Swimming Competition Held in Hong Kong

2008 SOEA Regional Swimming Competition was successfully completed in Hong Kong on 11th July 2008. This event was held by Special Olympics Hong Kong, Hong Kong Sports Association for the Mentally Handicapped, and subsidized by Leisure and Cultural Services Department.

SOEA Held Regional ALPs Governance Training in Shenzhen

During July 21 ¨C 25, 2008, Special Olympics East Asia held a regional Athlete Leadership Programs (ALPs) governance training in Shenzhen. Over 30 athlete leaders and mentors from China, Hong Kong, Macau, Chinese Taipei and Korea as well as volunteers from Mattel attended the training.

SO Athlete Judy Yang Shared Her Understanding of Championship
in Beijing Olympics Forum

On August 4, 2008, four days before Beijing Olympic Games, the What Makes a Champion?™ Forum, one of the most important cultural events for the Beijing Olympic Games, was held at the Centennial Hall of Peking University. The two-day forum, opened by former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, invites celebrities in culture and sports to talk about what it takes to be a champion. Special Olympics athlete Judy Yang was invited to the forum as one of the "champions" among people with intellectual disabilities.    More...

  

Shanghai Racquet Club Donates Tennis Equipment to Special Schools in Shanghai

On 13th August 2008, Shanghai Racquet Club & Apartments donated tennis equipment to several special schools in Shanghai. The donation ceremony was held in Shanghai Zha Bei Special School. About 30 special school students, teachers and volunteers took part in the activity.     More...

SO Macau Held Football Week Activities

From June to August, Special Olympics Macau arranged a series of football activities as part of the SO Football Week Event. Besides SO athletes, there were many unified partners taking part in.

5-a-side football trainings were held in June and 11-a-side football trainings were held in July and August. Altogether about 120 athletes and 60 unified partners participated in the activites.
